This page explains what cookies Awkward Conversations uses on awkconversations.org, why, and how to remove them.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. Some are needed for the site to work. Others help us understand how the site is used.
The cookies we use
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visitor cookie (acana_vid) | Awkward Conversations (first party) | Gives your browser a random ID so our own analytics can count visits and pages viewed. If you have an account, your History tab can depend on this cookie. It is not used for advertising. | 1 year |
| Sign-in and account cookies | Awkward Conversations (first party) | Keep you signed in and keep your account and membership working. | Until you sign out, or the session ends |
| Language cookie (acml_lang) | Awkward Conversations (first party) | Remembers which language you chose (English, Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese) so the site opens in it next time. | 1 year |
| Cookie notice cookie | Awkward Conversations (first party) | Remembers that you have seen the cookie notice so it does not show again. | 1 year |
| HubSpot tracking cookie (__hstc) | HubSpot (third party) | The main cookie HubSpot uses to track visitors. It holds the times of your first, last and current visit and a visit count. | 6 months |
| HubSpot visitor cookie (hubspotutk) | HubSpot (third party) | Identifies the visitor to HubSpot. It is passed to HubSpot when you submit a form and is used to avoid duplicate contacts. | 6 months |
| HubSpot session cookie (__hssc) | HubSpot (third party) | Tracks sessions, so HubSpot knows whether a visit is part of the same session. | 30 minutes |
| HubSpot browser restart cookie (__hssrc) | HubSpot (third party) | Works with __hssc to tell whether you have restarted your browser. | End of session |
| Spotify cookies | Spotify (third party) | Set by Spotify, under its own cookie policy, on pages that show a Spotify audio player. | Set by Spotify |
What we do not do
We do not use advertising cookies. We do not sell data collected through cookies.
Your choices
This site tells you about cookies with a notice. It does not ask you to opt in. You can remove or block cookies at any time in your browser settings. If you block or delete the visitor cookie the site still works, but visits made before you sign in will not be linked to your account, and your History tab may show less.
Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge each have a Cookies section under Privacy in Settings.
