Migration

The words are the hard part. Here are three you can borrow.

  1. Hiring and shortlisting

A colleague assumes a refugee candidate is only fit for entry-level work.

    How to say it

"Many forced migrants hold advanced degrees and professional backgrounds from home. Let's look at their technical skills and talents rather than assuming they're limited to entry-level work."

  2. University and tuition support

Asylum-seeking students are usually barred from government loans and grants.

    How to say it

"You've worked incredibly hard to earn your place here. If there are any funding gaps or administrative hurdles we can look into together, please let us know."

  3. School enrolment

Stateless children often lack standard HK ID, which can stall registration.

    How to say it

"We're thrilled to welcome your child. If you don't have standard local ID for the forms, don't worry, we can use official immigration papers or school letters to get everything set up."
